This year’s Global Virtual Sarcoidosis Summit, hosted by the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR), is bringing together the sarcoidosis community under the theme “Find Your Community, Find Your Life.”

Those interested in taking part in the summit, happening virtually from Nov. 3 to 5, can register now. The cost for a ticket is $75, and there are some free scholarship tickets available for patients and caregivers.

Under this year’s theme, patients, their families, supporters, and healthcare providers will be encouraged to learn, network, and be more involved while building their own support community. The event is also an opportunity for patients to gain access to resources meant to help them in their sarcoidosis journey and to learn from experts, while doctors and researchers can learn and hear directly from the sarcoidosis community.

“This extraordinary global virtual gathering offers a plethora of opportunities to enhance the understanding of sarcoidosis and receive direct answers to your questions from world-renowned experts,” Mary McGowan, FSR’s CEO, said in a foundation press release.

Opportunity to learn about clinical trials

“It’s also an opportunity to learn about clinical trials and how to become empowered to take charge of their health and how to take action and engage with the sarcoidosis community,” McGowan added.

Sarcoidosis occurs when white blood cells clump together to form tiny clusters called granulomas. Granulomas can build up in the body’s organs and interfere with the way they work, causing a range of symptoms.

It can be challenging to live with sarcoidosis, but treatments, lifestyle changes, and support within the community may help patients better manage the disease.

“Our goal is to provide valuable insights, build connections, and give vital support for all those affected by this rare and often debilitating disease,” McGowan said.

The summit will open its “virtual doors” four days before its official start, allowing participants to check out sessions in advance, get familiar with the virtual platform, and begin networking with other attendees.

The kick-off event on Nov. 3, called “An Evening to Find Hope and Inspiration through Music,” is interactive and will feature former professional baseball player and musician Bernie Williams.

The following two days will include plenary sessions, thought-provoking meetings aimed at delivering different ideas and perspectives, and networking and discussion opportunities.

Topics include overcoming isolation through community support, learning about genetics and environmental factors, finding the right treatment, exploring holistic therapies, and staying up to date on new treatments in development.

This year’s edition is bringing back expert-led 101 Track topics. These sessions, which will cover different types of sarcoidosis, are meant to provide relevant information for those new to sarcoidosis and those already familiar with the disease.
